Refuse and Replace

Refuse and Replace

When refusing and replacing throw-away plastic, choose biodegradable/compostable materials.

For example,

       Takeout/Fast Food

      - Carry your own refillable water bottle, request paper cups          when possible

 - Use water-fill stations at school, your local parks, and             anywhere else when available

     - Carry your own paper/reusable straws

     - Carry your own reusable utensils

     - Refuse all plastic/Styrofoam food containers and                          request paper ones; bring your own reusable                                containers from home (when health

        conditions allow)

        Mail

      - Use only paper mailing envelopes and paper                            shipping tape

        Household

       - Research and buy laundry products not in plastic jugs               or containers (such as powdered products or laundry

           strips)

        -  Research and buy powder dishwasher soap in                           cardboard boxes

        - Research and buy dish soap in aluminum containers                 and cartons

         Personal Care

       - Buy hand soap, hand lotions, shampoo and                               conditioners in aluminum containers

       - Buy bar soap in cardboard boxes

       - Research and buy alternatives to toothpaste in plastic             tubes; buy bamboo toothbrushes

       - Buy reusable silicone "ziploc" storage bags

For further research on alternatives to single-use plastic         do a search for sustainable products on your search                 engine of choice or check out the following website that         is listed below.
